11 rules you need to follow when dressing up for Mickey’s Not So-Scary Halloween Party

Normally dressing up when heading to Disney World is not allowed for those 14 year-old or older, but the rules change during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

In fact, everyone is encouraged to dress up when coming to the event at the Magic Kingdom. After all, it is a Halloween Party.

However, there are still some rules you need to follow. And caveats do exist. For example, Disney reserves the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that is considered inappropriate or could detract from the experience of other Guests. And guests who do not adhere to the guidelines may be refused entry into, and/or removed from, the park unless his or her costume can be modified to meet the above standards.

Here are the guidelines:

1. All Guests may dress as their favorite character, but may not pose for pictures or sign autographs for other Guests. (So, don’t bother bringing your pen hoping the kids think you are Gaston or Cinderella. After all, there is only one of them, and you ain’t them.)

2. Costumes must be family-friendly and may not be obstructive, offensive, objectionable or violent.

3. Costumes may not contain any weapons that resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon. (A good rule wherever you may go.)

4. Costumes may not contain sharp objects, pointed objects or materials that may accidentally strike another Guest.

5. For those 13 years old and younger: Costumes and some masks may be worn, as long as the mask does not cover the entire face and eyes are visible.

6. For those 14 and older:  Layered costumes or costume props that surround the entire body are strongly discouraged and may be subject to additional security screening.

7. Costumes may not reach or drag on the ground. (e.g., full-length Princess dresses)

8. Capes may be worn if the length does not go below the waist. (But let’s remember what superhero fashion designer Edna Mode, from the Incredibles has to say about capes – “No capes.”)

9. Themed T-shirts, blouses, sweatshirts and hats are acceptable.

10. Acceptable accessories include transparent wings, plastic lightsabers, toy swords and tutus. Headwear may be worn as long as it does not cover the face.

11. Masks of any kind may not be worn.
