Disney launches new StarWars.com
The Star Wars machine is in high gear these days, with a new animated series debuting this fall and — at last! — a new installment in the film series due next year.
As part of the run-up, Disney has relaunched StarWars.com as “the first source” for news, videos and exclusive features.
Among what you’ll find on the site:
- News items and blog posts (like the real first appearance of Boba Fett)
- A timeline of events, including scheduled release dates (right now the only one is Dec. 18, 2015 for Episode VII)
- Landing zones for TV shows, games and apps, and films
- A community section that aggregates Star Wars news from around the web and links to fan blogs, organizations, collecting sites and podcasts
- The databank, an exhaustive, searchable encyclopedia of characters, creatures, locations, vehicles, weapons and all things Star Wars
The site is responsively designed, so you can view it from a desktop, smartphone or tablet.
Some users of the old StarWars.com have reported that their user accounts were deleted. Because the site is now fully integrated with the Disney universe of websites, you’ll be able to use a Disney account to log in for special features.
One of the site’s first “scoops”: The reveal of “Star Wars: Rebels” villain Agent Kallus, who will be voiced by actor David Oyelowo (Lincoln, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), who also is rumored to be connected to Episode VII.
