Tower of Terror video begins to fulfill promise of MyMagic+

Disney’s MagicBands have made a lot of things easier about visiting Disney World — including spending your hard-earned money. But magic? That’s been a little slow in coming.

Well, Disney has announced a new feature that offers a hint of what’s possible with this technology: Next time you ride the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, you’ll be able to get an artfully edited video of your ride.

You’ll need a MagicBand and an active Memory Maker entitlement. The video will be associated to your My Disney Experience Account, and your linked family and friends will have access to the video too. Memory Maker costs $199 if you buy it at the parks; $149 if you buy it in advance.

One video may not make that worthwhile, but imagine where this technology can go from here: Any ride that currently has a photo feature (Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin …) could theoretically be adapted for video.

And the rumor mill is buzzing with guesses about what’s going to happen at Haunted Mansion this winter, when the ride is closed for two weeks in conjunction with the opening of a new Haunted Mansion shop. Maybe your Ghost Host really will follow you home?

Here’s a look at what the Tower of Terror videos will look like, from the Disney Parks Blog:
