‘Guardians of Galaxy’ soundtrack moves to No. 1 position on Billboard 200 chart
After just two weeks, the Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 1 soundtrack is No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album debuted on the chart in the No. 3 position.
The music plays a key role in the movie and features such classic 1970s tracks as “Hooked on a Feeling,” “I’m Not in Love” “Come and Get Your Love,” and “Cherry Bomb.”
“One of the main story points in the movie is that (Peter) Quill has this compilation tape [Awesome Mix #1] that he got from his mother before she died that she made for him. It was of songs that she loved, all songs from the 1970s, and that’s the only thing he has left of his mother and that’s the only thing he has left of his home on Earth. He uses that as a connection to his past and to the sadness that he feels of having left all that and lost all that,” said director James Gunn explaining how the songs play a role in the story.
The album also peaked at No. 1 on iTunes Overall and Soundtrack Charts, No.1 on Amazon’s Overall Music Category and Digital Music charts, plus Google Play’s Overall and Soundtrack charts.
