Disney announces a Frozen ride at Epcot, and more
Ever since Epcot’s Norway pavilion became the home of Queen Elsa and Princess Anna, Disney fans have been chattering about a future “Frozen” attraction. And now Disney has made it official. Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, announced the news on the Disney Parks Blog today:
“We’re starting construction at Walt Disney World Resort on a brand new “Frozen” attraction at the Norway Pavilion in Epcot. The new attraction, which replaces Maelstrom, will take our guests to Arendelle and immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film.”
The world of “Frozen” obviously is rich in possibilities for both a beautiful, immersive ride and a little bit of a scare.
In addition, Anna and Elsa will have a royal greeting area at the pavilion. Update: Disney is now saying the new ride will open in “early 2016.”
Anna, Elsa and their friends will make their presence known at the Magic Kingdom and Hollywood studios as well. A few other Frozen notes from today’s announcement:
- Queen Elsa will take over the duties of transforming Cinderella’s Castle into an ice palace, replacing Cinderella’s Holiday Wish.
- Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf will join Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade at the Very Merry Christmas Party.
- At Hollywood Studios, the Frozen sing-along will continue after Frozen Summer Fun concludes this month.
- Wandering Oaken’s Frozen Funland will get a new home nearer the theater where the singalong takes place. The announcement promised a larger play area with “real snow.”
