The second western lowland gorilla in one month has been born at Animal Kingdom in Disney World.
Mother Kashata and father Gino welcomed a male gorilla on Sept. 3. On Aug. 7, another male gorilla was born to mother Azizzi and Gino, Disney announced.
“It’s exciting to see a strong, nurturing family of this endangered species flourishing at Disney’s Animal Kingdom,” said Jay Therien, Animal Operations Manager for Disney’s Animal Programs.
The family of gorillas, which live in the wooded sanctuary of the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail, also include another adult female, Benga, and a four-year-old female named Lilly.
This is the fifth gorilla born at Animal Kingdom as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan. The first gorilla was born in 1997 before the park opened, the second was born in 199 and the third cam in 2010. The last two came in the past month.
