Disney fast facts: A look at Captain Hook

Captain Hook is one of the more popular villains in Disney lore. (Pictured below the Captain during the Festival of Fantasy Parade at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World.)

Here are three fast facts about Captain Hook:

1. In the original play, “Peter Pan,” Captain Hook loses his right hand, but the Disney artists switched the hook to the left hand because they felt the right hand would limit his actions.

2. Henry Brandon, who in 1934 played the villain role Silas Barnaby in the “Babes in Toyland” was the reference model for Captain Hook.

3. Captain Hook’s name in different languages are: Capitaine Crochet (French), Käpt’n Hook (German), Capitán Garfio (Spanish), Capitan Uncino (Italian), Kapitein Haak (Dutch), Kapten Krok (Swedish) and Capitão Gancho (Brazilian Portuguese).
