• This is the first Pixar movie to have a female protagonist.
• Merida is the first Disney Princess to come from a Pixar film.
• The origin of the name Merida is the Latin form of Mary, which is derived from the Hebrew Miryām. Many believe the name means “sea of bitterness” or “sea of sorrow.” Others believe the definition is “rebellion,” “wished-for child,” and “mistress or lady of the sea.”
