Disney releases new info on Guardians of the Galaxy coaster experience

The new Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster at Epcot in Disney World will be a more than a roller coaster, it will be a “storytelling coaster,” Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek said this morning at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Expo.

Normally the ride vehicles usually are designed to do nothing but sit people forward. However, on this ride, “each individual cab will be programmed to direct your eye to the story happening around you. This means that instead of “whizzing by the action you’ll be fully immersed in the story from the minute you launch,” Chapek said.  

Construction of the ride building is now taking place. The new building that will house this ride is so big that it would fit four Spaceship Earths, according to Chapek.

Photo designs of the cars have been released as well. The new Guardians of the Galaxy coaster is expected to open sometime in 2021, during Disney World’s 50th anniversary.
