‘Frozen’ takes center stage for Disney’s Christmas Day TV special
Step aside, Santa. Move over, Mickey. This Christmas, Anna and Elsa will be taking the spotlight during Disney’s Christmas Day TV special.
The annual program is being billed this year as “The Disney Parks Frozen Christmas Celebration.” The special will air from 10 a.m. to noon on Christmas Day and include parades and shows from Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
Frozen already is a well-established part of the holidays at Disney Parks.
In Florida, Anna and Elsa light the castle every night at the Magic Kingdom. And over at Epcot, Jonathan Groff, the voice of Kristoff, will narrate the Christmas story as part of the Candlelight Processional Dec. 3-5. And at Hollywood Studios, the “Frozen” sing-along continues, and Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post — otherwise known as the big “Frozen” gift shop — remains open.
In California, several “Frozen” scenes have been added to the holiday World of Color show at California Adventure, and Anna and Elsa have officially been added to the cast of the Christmas parade. (Although we haven’t confirmed it, we’ve seen Anna and Elsa in other Disney World parades, so we would expect to see them at the Magic Kingdom parade as well.)
Here’s the official listing for the Christmas Day special:
“Disney Parks Frozen Christmas Celebration”: Music, magic and merriment come together when Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida present the 31st annual Christmas Day parade and TV special. The star-studded sounds of the season include some of today’s top musical talents lending their voices to celebrate the holidays. And, from fairy tales to classic Christmas carols, Disney friends and holiday characters spread joy and good tidings through Disneyland Park in California and the Magic Kingdom Park in Florida. This year promises some extra Frozen fun with fanciful floats and colorful cavalcades as Santa Claus himself along with his reindeer, wend their holly jolly way down Main Street, USA.
