It’s official: A full-length Frozen sequel is coming
There is now official word that a “Frozen” sequel is in the works, as if there was ever any doubt. Disney CEO Bob Iger dropped the not-bombshell during the company’s shareholder meeting on Thursday.
Iger did not announce a release date, but he did say that “Frozen” co-directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck will both be involved in the sequel.
The reason a sequel could never have been in doubt? The first movie grossed more than $1.2 billion worldwide, and has created a merchandising juggernaut. A stage version of the story is Broadway-bound.
A mini-sequel, the 7-minute “Frozen Fever,” is coming to theaters this week ahead of the live-action “Cinderella.”
“We enjoyed making Frozen Fever so much and being back in that world with those characters,” John Lasseter, Disney’s Chief Creative Officer, said in a statement. “Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.”
