Review: Alien Swirling Saucers is cute for the kids

The Alien Swirling Saucers in Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios is built for the younger audience heading to Disney World.

How can you tell? Simply by the safety strap that goes across your lap—it’s just a single seatbelt for your whole family. The height restriction is 32 inches. If you’ve ever been to Disneyland and ridden Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, then you’ve been on this ride.

If not, then be prepared to be swung from side to side in a ride vehicle that is towed behind a three-eyed green Alien from Toy Story. This is not like a spinning teacup ride; you don’t go round-and-round, and you can’t control your spin. You do stay on a track and your vehicle swings back and forth. Think of it as if you were being pulled by a horse and your cart makes a wide turn.

With “The Claw” dangling overhead, guests climb aboard their rocket ships and hover in Pizza Planet’s version of “deep-dish space,” whirling around as new versions of “Toy Story” songs and musical themes play.

The line is similar to Slinky Dog Dash in that a good portion of it is outside in the open where you are susceptible to the hot sun and rain.

Before boarding Alien Swirling Saucers, guests can pose for a photo with a Buzz Lightyear action figure standing more than 14 feet tall on top of toy building blocks near the entrance to his Star Command Space Station Playset. Toy robot guards flank the Pizza Planet-inspired marquee.

As with everything in the 11-acre Toy Story Land the theming is great. While this ride is fun, it’s not worth a long wait on a super hot day.
