6 clever ideas for displaying your Disney collectibles

Ever wonder how to display your assemblage of Vinylmations or do justice to your Romero Britto collection? We went to Houzz.com for inspiration and found some clever ideas. Some of them you might need professional help to pull off, but others — including our favorite way to display those Vinylmations — are completely DIY.

Here are some general tips we gleaned from these collections:

  • Be proud of your collection! Don’t hide it away, make it the centerpiece of a room.
  • Group your collectibles together for more impact, especially the small ones.
  • Put them on the wall — even if that doesn’t seem intuitive.
  • Use lighting.
  • Get help if you want to get fancy.

Take a look at some of our favorite displays:

These tiny shelves are actually small jewelry boxes purchased at the Container Store and secured to the wall using pushpins. This would be a great — and inexpensive, completely DIY — way to display a Vinylmation collection. And because the boxes are easy to pin to the wall, it’s great for a collection that’s constantly expanding. (One thing: Hope you don’t mind dusting!)

Can’t you just picture a wall of Mickey Mouse ear hats? Mix in a few ear headbands for depth and texture. These hats are hung from removable plastic hooks. Another idea from this picture: If you have another collection — say, Mickey Mouse figurines or Jim Shore figures — you can group them together on a table under the hats.

Evenly spaced shelves against a contrasting background offer a flexible way to display your collectibles, whether they are tall or small. The red chairs picking up the color in the trains is a nice touch as well. These shelves were custom built, but you can find similar floating shelves at many home retailers, such as Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel. They aren’t terrible hard to install, but this kind of symmetry might be a bit tricky.

This “man cave” takes a similar approach, but with larger figures. In this case, the designer also has grouped the collectibles together by attaching frames to the walls. You could do this with a different primary color — say, red, yellow and blue — behind each frame.

Imagine a wall of Mickey Mouse figurines — or perhaps a Romero Britto collection — against a cool white background, each figurine lit with its own small puck light. Sweet! And probably a job for a professional contractor, unless you’re handy with a saw and lighting.
Another custom design, this one created to display sci-fi figurines but also perfect for Vinylmations. It also makes great use of a long hallway. You can find similar cases online, but they don’t look quite this slick.

Protect your collectibles and reduce the dusting by housing your collectibles in glass domes. You could pose two or three small figurines together in a single dome and mix them up with larger items. It may take you a while to accumulate a collection of domes.
