Guardians of the Galaxy – Awesome Mix Live is out of this World… Showcase
The premise of summer Guardians of the Galaxy – Awesome Mix Live! concert series seems out-of-place in the America Gardens Theatre in Epcot at Walt Disney World.
A group of aliens from Xandar, the birthplace of the Nova Corps, are sent to Epcot as part of a new outreach initiative because Epcot it is viewed as a cultural epicenter.
To help this symphonic band play music that our Earth ears can understand, Star-Lord, with a reluctant Gamora, come to save the galaxy again – this time from bad music.
With baby Groot providing the music list, the Guardians are out to create the best cover band as possible. Yes, it’s strange. But it works and is a lot of fun. It’s a perfect mixture of sci-fi and rock n roll.
You can sing along, dance along and just have a good time.
The seven-piece Xandarian band rocks through the music from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. The three singers have strong voices and the performance from the band is superb. Star-Lord is the arrogant, clueless, comedic character you expect, dancing and enjoying the music throughout the show. The stoic Gamora makes a great foil to Star-Lord, wondering why they are dealing with this music thing. The banter between the songs helps keep the show premise alive.
But it’ the music that’s the real star. When James Gunn, the creative force behind the Marvel movie franchise, chose the playlist for the films he found music that not only helped move the plot along but bridged generations. The movies brought to the forefront hit music from a time some kids may have never heard before, helping bring them closer to their parents and grandparents.
If you plan on attending try to get seats as close to the middle as possible. You want a view of the entire stage for the show. So it’s worth sitting a little further back and center than up close and on the edge. Annual Passholders can get wristbands for guaranteed seating.
Still, the show does seem out-of-place among pavilions celebrating countries of the world. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll see a Xandar pavilion to join the Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster that’s being built.
