Disney World files permit to move earth for ‘Project 89’

Walt Disney World has filed permits to allow a  30-acre area to be used to stockpile soil from the mysterious Project 89 at the site of the old River Country near Fort Wilderness.

The permits, filed with the Southwest Florida Management System, state specifically it is a modification of the Project 89 permits.

The 30-acre site called the Stolport site, that will be used for stockpiling the earthwork from Project 89 is located east of Vista Drive not far from World Drive.

Disney has still not announced what type construction will take on the Project 89 site. The site is the former River Country, Disney World’s first water park. The park is located near Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and operated from 1976 until 2001. It wasn’t until 2005 that Disney officials said the park would not re-open.

There has been a lot of speculation that the location will be a new Disney Vacation Club resort.

The Stolport Site will be used to create a dirt pile for another Project.
