The new pirate Redd will be visiting guests at Disneyland this summer
A new pirate will soon be walking around Disneyland’s New Orleans Square.
The fierce pirate Redd has already debuted as a character in the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disney World and Disneyland Paris. She will soon be able to be seen in the refurbished Pirates ride when it reopens on June 8, 2018.
The Bride Auction scene is now being altered during the refurbishment. This new version keeps the idea of the auction but removes the human trafficking and fat shaming aspects of the scene. And it transforms the “Redhead” into the pirate Redd.
Gone are the brides and in its place are the townspeople, lined up with their belongings to be auctioned to the pirates. Also gone are the calls for “We wants the Redhead” to “We wants the rum.”
The character, according to the Disney Parks Blog, will be able to be seen around New Orleans Square. The blog has a brief interview with Redd who said she is looking forward to meeting guests. “I be searching for brave sorts of recruits for a few little ventures,” she said.
What those adventures are, we will just have to wait for the summer.
