Weather forecast for Star Wars Half Marathon at Disney World
Runners will be experiencing warm weather and high humidity during the Star Wars Half Marathon – The Dark Side races at Walt Disney World this weekend.
More than 43,500 runners are preparing for three days of races April 19 through April 22, including runDisney Kids Races, a 5K, a 10K and half marathon races.
Weather forecasts show that the Friday morning at race time it will be 64 degrees and 90 percent humidity. Saturday morning will start at 68 degrees with 85 percent humidity and Sunday will be 70 degrees with 87 percent humidity, according to weather.com.
No rain is in the forecast and the mornings will start out partly cloudy.
The four-day event has runners from 52 countries and will be able to come face-to-face with Captain Phasma, Kylo Ren and First Order stormtroopers, as well as other Star Wars characters.
More than 17,000 runners will participate in the half-marathon, 12,000 in the 10K and 12,500 in the 5K, while 2,000 will take part in the kid’s races.
runDisney is offering these tips for runners:
- Closely monitor your pace and do not overextend yourself. This may not be the event to attempt your personal best.
- Stay well hydrated prior to the race and maintain fluid status with alternating water and electrolyte-based hydration options throughout your race and the entire race weekend.
- Choose light clothing/costumes for the race, and ensure any headwear is breathable and allows heat to escape.
- Slow down and ask for assistance at any signs of heat illness, including dizziness, light-headedness or nausea. Heed these warnings seriously.
