Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean ride to close April 23 for refurbishment
Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean attraction will close for refurbishment for about six weeks starting April 23, 2018.
The refurbishment will most likely include the changeover of the Bride Auction scene, similar to what is happening now at the Magic Kingdom and Disney World and at Disneyland Paris last summer.
The refurbishment is expected to last from April 23 to June 7, 2018.
The famous Bride Auction scene (“We want the Redhead”) no longer show pirates auctioning off women and pirates calling out “We wants the redhead.”
The scene has been viewed as a sexist representation. When Disney announced the change last year, Suzi Brown, spokeswoman for the Disneyland Resort said in a statement: “We believe the time is right to turn the page to a new story in this scene, consistent with the humorous, adventurous spirit of the attraction.”
In the new version, the audio-animatronic redhead character will be “joining the pirates’ ranks and helping the local townspeople ‘unload’ their valuables at the Mercado auction.”
The Magic Kingdom’s version is expected to re-open March 19.
Disneyland Paris made this change last July. The video below shows the changes.
