Jon Favreau to helm new Star Wars live-action TV show
Jon Favreau, who launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe with “Iron Man,” will executive produce and write a live-action Star Wars series for Disney’s direct-to-consumer platform, Lucasfilm announced.
Favreau not only directed “Iron Man” and “Iron Man 2,” but is also an executive director of the Iron Man and Avengers films. He also directed and produced the live-action “The Jungle Book” and is in production for the 2019 release of “The Lion King.”
For Lucasfilm, Favreau played roles in both the “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” animated series and in the upcoming “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure,” Favreau said in a news release.
“Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said. “This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”
There is no title or release date for the upcoming series.
