How might the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ coaster compare with world’s longest
The new “Guardians of the Galaxy”-inspired roller coaster that is coming to Epcot in Disney World is being touted as one of the world’s longest enclosed roller coasters in the world. But, exactly how long will that be?
Disney already has some of the longest enclosed roller coasters in the world with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios clocking in at 3,403 feet and Tokyo Space Mountain at 3,450 feet, according to the Roller Coaster Database.
Even Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World clocks in fairly long with the Alpha track at 3,196 feet and the Omega track at 3,186 feet.
The longest fully enclosed coaster appears to be Temple of the Night Hawk at 3,851 feet. The ride is located at Phantasialand in Germany and takes you through a fantasy jungle theme.
The longest roller coasters in the world are all more than a mile long (that’s 5,280 feet). The record goes to Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spa Land in Japan with a track length of 8,133 feet (that’s 1.5 miles in length).
The longest coaster in the U.S. is the Beast at Kings Island in Ohio at 7,359 feet. One Disney coaster breaks the top 10 of all time. The Incredicoaster at California Adventure is the 9th longest in the world at 6,072 feet.
Considering the length, how long of a ride would the coaster be? Well, that will all depend on the speed. The Steel Dragon is a 4-minute ride but reaches speeds of 95 mph. The Temple of Night Hawk is also a 4-minute ride and reaches speeds of 28 mph.
For comparison, the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster clocks in at 1 minute 22 seconds with speeds of 57 mph and Tokyo Space Mountain is 2 minutes 45 seconds at speeds of 30 mph.
