Exact locations revealed for Ratatouille, Tron, new theater at Disney World

Newly filed permits by Disney now gives us the exact location of where three new attractions will be located at Disney World.

The new rides include Ratatouille in the France Pavilion in Epcot and the Tron roller coaster in the Magic Kingdom. The other attraction is a new theater for the Magic Kingdom.

All of these were first announced at D23 Expo 2017 in July and work has already started to clear the area for these attractions. The new permits give a more detailed idea as to the location, but there are no specific blueprints. These are not building permits, but permits filed with the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

Let’s take a closer look at the attractions:

Ratatouille

As you can see below, the new Ratatouille ride will be located behind the current France Pavilion and the ride building will be just as large as the current pavilion. The entrance to the attraction will be on the right side of the current pavilion and wind it’s way to the back. According to the artists concept which was previously released, the pathway will be lined with trees, have a few shops and there will be a restroom and a fountain. This is expected to open in 2020.

Tron roller coaster and Magic Kingdom Theater

The two projects at the Magic Kingdom fall under one permit for the large area. Let’s first look at the Tron ride, or the Tron Lightcycle Power Run as it is called in Shanghai Disneyland. It is a semi-enclosed launched steel roller coaster based on the Tron series.

Torn is located in a huge swatch of current wetlands the back up to World Drive. The area goes from Space Mountain to behind Storybook Circus. The dark grey you see below is the actual building where the ride will be located. The light grey area is the exterior “awning” of the ride (see the artists concept below the map). The entrance to the ride will be the area to the left of Space Mountain between the Tomorrowland Speedway. Its the path that that goes from Tomorrowland to Storybook Circus and contains the smoking area. This ride should open by Disney World’s  50th anniversary in 2021.

The Magic Kingdom Theater will be a large entertainment venue placed behind Main Street, U.S.A. based on the Willis Theater in 1920s Kansas City. For those of you who have exited the “back way” from Tomorrowland to the front of the park or those who have gone to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas and entered early, that is the walkway that will take you to the new theater. It will be placed in what is a current parking lot, which at one time was the Tomorrowland Theater.

No information on what will play in the theater, but you can hope that some of the theatrical shows that have been at  California Adventure in Disneyland might show up. This should be open by Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
