Details released of what Pixar Pier at California Adventure will look like

Pixar is getting a huge presence in the summer of 2018 both at Disney World – with Toy Story Land –  and Disneyland with Pixar Pier.

Pixar Pier at California Adventure is going to be the re-themed area of what is now Paradise Pier, with at least one new attraction coming, four new “neighborhoods” and a lot of alterations to existing attractions. It will also mean a number of rides will close Jan. 8, 2018 for the rehab.

The first neighborhood being created is inspired by Disney-Pixar’s “The Incredibles” and it will open in summer 2018 with the Incredicoaster. This is a transformation of the current California Screamin’. Guests will board into the vehicles in a mid-century-modern-style loading area. There will be new   character moments, new scenes and special effects, connecting the ride to  “The Incredibles 2,” which opens in theaters June 14, 2018.

The second neighborhood is inspired by “Toy Story” and will be developed around the Toy Story Mania! attraction.

The third neighborhood is inspired by “Inside Out,” and this will have a new family-friendly attraction. Disney has not announced what the attraction is or when it could be expected to open.

The fourth neighborhood will celebrate a collection of guest-favorite Pixar stories. Mickey’s Fun Wheel will be themed with a new look and each of the 24 gondolas will showcase a different Pixar character. At the Games of the Boardwalk, which currently includes a game called Bullseye Stallion Stampede, guests will find that all the midway games will be inspired by Pixar characters. New games are expected to include characters from “A Bug’s Life,” “La Luna” and “WALL·E.”

Ariel’s Grotto restaurant and the Cove Bar will be transformed into a Pixar-themed lounge offering views of Paradise Bay and the new Pixar Pier.

The remaining areas of the original Paradise Pier – including Paradise Gardens, Silly Symphony Swings, Jumping Jellyfish, Goofy’s Sky School, Golden Zephyr and The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure – will become a new land called Paradise Park.

Now the bad news. To allow these changes to take place, attractions will have to close. Starting Jan. 8, 2018, California Screamin’, Mickey’s Fun Wheel, Games of the Boardwalk and Sideshow Shirts will close.

In addition, on Jan. 8, Ariel’s Grotto and Cove Bar will close with Cove Bar reopening briefly in April before its permanent transformation. Guests wishing to reserve “World of Color” dining packages after Jan. 7 may consider Carthay Circle Restaurant or Wine Country Trattoria.
