Disneyland and Disney World step up security with metal detectors and banning toy guns

Disney has stepped up its security at Disneyland and Disney World adding metal detectors and banning toy guns, including water pistols.

In addition, to the normal bag checks, Disney will randomly select guests for secondary screening but wouldn’t say how long the measures would be in place, according to the Associated Press.

“We continually review our comprehensive approach to security and are implementing additional security measures, as appropriate,” according to a Disney statement.

In addition to the normal list of park rules, Disney has added that costumes may not be worn by guests over 14 years of age and weapons and objects that appear to be weapons, including toy guns, are prohibited.

Disney will also discontinue the sale of toy guns at its parks.

The decision comes as the holidays approach and as many public venues are increasing security in light of the terrorist attacked in Paris and San Bernardino, California.
