Photos from Marvel’s Captain America statue dedication in Brooklyn

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of Captain America, Marvel dedicated a statute to the First Avenger in Cap’s hometown of Brooklyn, New York.

While Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) grew up in Red Hook section of Brooklyn, the 13-foot tall bronze statue was placed in Prospect Park. And, some Brooklynites were not pleased. Some people said the area was designated “commercial-free” and the Marvel franchise is as commercial as it gets, according to the New York Post.

But that did not stop a crowd of people to come out and take part in the festivities.

The statue will stay in Prospect Park for two weeks before moving to Barclays Center in September. In October, it will go to the new Bed Bath & Beyond in Sunset Park.

Captain America first appeared in March 1941 in Captain America Comics #1. Steve Rogers, a scrawny student wants to join the Army to fight the Nazis but is rejected. He become a test subject for a super soldier serum. He take it and transforms into Captain America.
