Victoria & Albert’s Leaders Promoted to Top Roles at Disney’s Grand Floridian
Disney World Resort has announced a significant leadership shift at its flagship resort, promoting two longtime culinary anchors to new executive positions. Matthew Sowers, the former Chef de Cuisine of the MICHELIN-starred Victoria & Albert’s, has been named Executive Chef of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
In his new role, Sowers will oversee the culinary operations for all 13 food and beverage locations across the resort. He will report to Culinary Director Scott Hunnel, who famously led the Victoria & Albert’s kitchen for more than a quarter-century. While Sowers’ responsibilities will now span the entire property, he will remain closely involved in the curated evening menus at Victoria & Albert’s.
“True to the continual evolution of Victoria & Albert’s, my new role as executive chef will allow me to guide the future of the restaurant alongside Chef Miguel Santeliz while also broadening my impact across the talented culinary team at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa,” Sowers said.
The Rise of Miguel Santeliz
Stepping into the prestigious role of Chef de Cuisine at Victoria & Albert’s is Miguel Santeliz. A veteran of the Walt Disney World culinary program for over two decades, Santeliz began his journey as a sous chef intern.
Before joining the Victoria & Albert’s team three years ago, Santeliz honed his craft at several of Disney’s most acclaimed signature dining locations, including:
- Topolino’s Terrace (Riviera Resort)
- Yachtsman Steakhouse (Yacht Club Resort)
- Trattoria al Forno (BoardWalk)
Since 2022, Santeliz has worked in close tandem with Sowers, notably collaborating with three-MICHELIN-star Chef Arnaud Lallement to develop the high-end menus for Remy aboard the Disney Cruise Line.
The promotions highlight a deep-seated culture of mentorship within Disney’s fine-dining circuit. Sowers, who rose from a line cook to the head of a MICHELIN-starred kitchen over a 20-year span, personally mentored Santeliz to take over the daily operations of the world-class restaurant.
“Victoria & Albert’s has built an incredible legacy, and it’s a true honor to carry that forward,” said Santeliz. “I’m humbled by the responsibility, excited to lead this talented team, and eager to keep pushing the boundaries of creativity.”
As Chef de Cuisine, Santeliz is now tasked with maintaining the restaurant’s rigorous global standards of artistry and innovation, ensuring that Victoria & Albert’s remains the crown jewel of Disney dining.
