Free-roaming BDX Droids land at Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge
Prepare for immediate droid encounters. The bustling Black Spire Outpost on Batuu just got a whole lot more lively as the highly anticipated BDX Droids have officially begun free-roaming through Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World.
These cutting-edge, bipedal companions are bringing an unprecedented level of interactive charm to Hollywood Studios, making their debut today, July 16, 2025, and will be here through Aug. 30. They will make appearances Tuesday through Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m., and 6 p.m.
For years, visitors to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge have been able to build their own custom droids at Droid Depot, but now, a new generation of sophisticated, expressive droids is exploring the land on their own two legs. Developed by Walt Disney Imagineering’s Project Kiwi team, the BDX Droids (short for “Bipedal Dynamic Experiment”) represent a significant leap in animatronic technology, designed for spontaneous interactions and lifelike movements.
The BDX Droids, easily identifiable by their striking main colors, first charmed audiences during a playtest at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland in October 2023. These innovative droids, named Red, Grek, Oskar, and Besh, later delighted guests with limited daily appearances for Disneyland’s Season of the Force 2024, where we got to meet them.
