Disney World’s west entrance getting traffic congestion relief
Possible good news for weary Disney World travelers and Cast Members. If you’ve ever found yourself stuck in the afternoon traffic on the western side of the Disney World Resort, especially when heading to or from Animal Kingdom, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) hears you loud and clear. They’ve just unveiled plans for two big construction projects aimed at making those drives a whole lot smoother.
To kickstart the projects, the district is holding an Engineering Forum tomorrow, June 11, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. This forum will serve as a platform to provide detailed project information, address questions, and foster discussions among firms interested in submitting Letters of Interest for professional engineering design services.
The two key roadway design projects to be discussed at the forum are:

- Western Way Widening: This project aims to expand the capacity of Western Way, a vital artery connecting numerous resort hotels, Animal Kingdom, the growing Flamingo Crossings area, and major regional roadways such as State Road 429. The widening is expected to significantly reduce traffic backups during peak travel times.

- Buena Vista Drive/Western Way Interchange: This project will focus on reconfiguring traffic patterns at the intersection of Western Way and Buena Vista Drive. This intersection is currently one of the busiest for resort-bound traffic, and the improvements are anticipated to streamline vehicle movement and reduce delays.
District officials highlighted that these projects are a direct response to the escalating traffic volumes observed in the area, a trend exacerbated by ongoing development along the Western Way corridor. While detailed design plans are yet to be released, the CFTOD emphasizes the urgency and importance of these infrastructure upgrades to accommodate the millions of visitors and employees who utilize these roadways annually.
