2 Disney World rides moving from virtual queues to standby

Big changes are coming to Walt Disney World. Guests will soon be able to experience Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind without a virtual queue.

Starting Feb. 25, these attractions will transition to a traditional standby line alongside Lightning Lane Single Pass or Lightning Lane Premier Pass. This ends the current spate of attraction virtual queues. There will be no attractions at Disney World using a virtual queue starting Feb. 25.

Disney World started using virtual queues when it opened Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in 2019 after it found crowds of guests showing up as early as 3 a.m. outside Disney’s Hollywood Studios to enter the park. Not only that but the line to enter the land extended five to six hours long, snaking to the front of the park near the Chinese Theater.

The virtual queue was then used as a staple with the opening of big-ticket items, including Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Tron, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

Attractions have been taken off the list once the ride demand falls from an “overwhelming” wait to what is more in line with big-ticket attractions. This means wait times could still clock in at two hours for some rides.

Here’s a quick look at how long each of these rides have used the virtual queue:

  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind: 1,005 days when it will be removed on Feb. 25.
  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance: 658 days
  • Tron: 524 days
  • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: 242 days when it will be removed on Feb. 25.
  • Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure: 101 days

In addition to attractions, the virtual queue system has been used for entry to special events and shopping events.

For those unfamiliar with virtual queues, it works like this: you apply to enter the virtual queue using your My Disney Experience app. When capacity allows, you are called back to go on the ride and will have a limited time to return to the entrance and get in a physical queue. This allows Disney to better meter access into an area.
