Disney’s Animal Kingdom new lions now watch over the savanna
A trio of lion siblings are now holding watch over the savanna at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Mshango, Zahara, and Neema have arrived and are already captivating guests with their playful energy on the Kilimanjaro Safaris.
The trio can be spotted exploring their new territory and showcasing their youthful exuberance. Their presence at Disney’s Animal Kingdom plays a vital role in the conservation of this species. As part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) Species Survival Plan (SSP), these lions will contribute to the responsible breeding and genetic diversity of the lion population, many of which are threatened or endangered in the wild.
The three lions replaced Dakari and Kamari, two aging lions that have been the icons of the park for the last decade, creating lasting memories for the guest who have visited the park.
But the two Animal Kingdom lions were getting to an age where Disney felt they needed a major decision and focus on their well being and happiness by moving them to a conservation haven in Florida accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
