Orlando airport to halt flights on Oct. 9 due to Hurricane Milton

Orlando International Airport and Orlando Executive Airport will cease commercial passenger and private operations in advance of Hurricane Milton on Wednesday morning Oct. 9, according to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.

“The airport is not closed and will remain open to accept emergency/aid and relief flights as necessary. We will resume commercial operations as soon as possible based on damage assessment,” according to the airport authority.

The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, which manages and operates both MCO and ORL, continues to stress safety. Passengers are encouraged to check with their airlines for flight updates regarding the Orlando Airport Hurricane Milton situation.

GOAA wants to alert the public that MCO is not an authorized shelter. The airport cannot accommodate local residents during severe weather events such as Hurricane Milton.

Hurricane Milton is currently a Category 5 hurricane and is expected to make landfall in Florida near Tampa Bay around 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. The effects of Orlando Airport Hurricane Milton will be closely monitored.

Disney World has not yet made any updates on its plan to close. If you are staying at a Disney Resort and planning to ride out the storm, here are 7 tips to help prepare.
