10 Disney World things you might have missed in September

Remember us? We’ve been a bit MIA this month, juggling family matters and exploring the beautiful Nova Scotia. Now, we’re back in the swing of things and couldn’t have picked a better day to return. Today, October 1st, marks Walt Disney World’s 53rd anniversary!

It was on this day in 1971 that the Magic Kingdom opened its gates to a crowd of 10,000 eager visitors. The Contemporary Hotel, Polynesian Village, and Fort Wilderness were also welcoming guests. Parking was a mere 50 cents, and the 11-Ticket Book could be yours for just $5.75.

Roy O. Disney, Walt’s brother, delivered the heartfelt dedication speech. Walt himself had passed away in 1966, a year before construction began. Roy’s words resonated: “Everyone has heard of Ford cars. But have they all heard of Henry Ford, who started it all? Walt Disney World is in memory of the man who started it all, so people will know his name as long as Walt Disney World is here.”

Since that historic day, Disney World has grown exponentially. EPCOT joined the Magic Kingdom in 1982, followed by Hollywood Studios in 1989 and Animal Kingdom in 1998. Two water parks, numerous resorts, and over 200 dining options have also been added to the ever-expanding world.

As you can image, when you go away for a few weeks, you tend to miss a lot. Let’s dive into a quick recap of 10 noteworthy September events you might have missed at Disney World

To accommodate the construction, guests staying at the hotel have been informed of temporary operational changes. One of the most noticeable changes is the closure of the south elevators.
