Disney World summer 2024: New attractions, celebrations coming in June

As Disney World kicks off the summer of 2024, guests can look forward to a season filled with some new attractions and celebrations. From the highly anticipated Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to special events honoring Disney classics, there’s plenty of magic to enjoy.

This summer marks a change at EPCOT, as there will be no festival for the first time in recent years. Instead, the focus will be on celebrating the final opening of the newly completed areas in the heart of the park.

Let’s take a quick look at what we expect at Disney World this summer. Here is what’s happening in June 2024:

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure – Opens June 28 in Magic Kingdom: The reimagining of Splash Mountain is complete with Cast Members starting their previews on June 3. Throughout the rest of the month Disney Wold Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members with a grand opening to the public on June 28. The new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will take guests on a musical adventure inspired by the beloved story and characters from the fan-favorite film “The Princess and the Frog.” Guests will be goin’ down the bayou with Princess Tiana and jazz-loving alligator Louis during Mardi Gras season as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind celebration for the people of New Orleans.

Joy Debuts – Opens June 10 in Hollywood Studios: – The popular character from Disney Pixar’s “Inside Out” and “Inside Out 2” debuts at her new character greeting location in Pixar Plaza where she joins other Pixar stars.

Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of “The Lion King” – Opens June 10 through Sept. 6.: The Disney animated classic “The Lion King” celebrates 30 years of being part of the circle of life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. In addition to special menu items and merchandise to mark the occasion, guests can meet Timon and Rafiki at Rafiki’s Planet Watch. While there, they can also learn to draw beloved character from the film at Animation Experience.

The Walt Disney Company announced it will host “Portraits of Courage: A Commander’s Tribute to America’s Warriors,” a special exhibit from the George W. Bush Institute, for a 12-month exhibition inside The American Adventure pavilion at EPCOT located at Walt Disney World Resort starting with a grand opening on June 9, 2024. ()

Portraits of Courage – Opens June 9 at American Adventure in EPCOT: “Portraits of Courage: A Commander’s Tribute to America’s Warriors,” a special exhibit from the George W. Bush Institute, will call the American Adventure pavilion in EPCOT home for a 12-month exhibition starting on June 9. Growing out of President George W. Bush’s personal commitment and the ongoing work of the Bush Institute’s Veterans and Military Families program, the exhibit brings together more than 60 full-color portraits painted by President Bush of service members and veterans who have served the nation with honor since 9/11, and whom the President has come to know personally since leaving office.

CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza – Opens June 10: – Capping off a multiyear transformation of EPCOT, CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza will open on June 10. Located in the new World Celebration neighborhood in the heart of the park, the locations will usher in a new era of festivals, exhibits and entertainment. Also opening is Mickey & Friends, a new location adjacent to CommuniCore Hall where guests can meet some of their favorite Disney pals.  

“¡Celebración Encanto!” -Opens June 10 to Sept. 6: Guests can enjoy a summer sing-along featuring the beloved songs and story of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto” on the CommuniCore Plaza stage. The new show will run several times throughout the day and will invite families to sing along with some of their favorite songs. Guests may even see Mirabel and Bruno join in the fun.

Celebrations and Important Dates in June

  • June 1: In 1989, Typhoon Lagoon opens at Disney World. (35th anniversary)
  • June 9: “The Wise Little Hen,” opens in 1934. This is first appearance of Donald Duck. (90th anniversary)
  • June 14: In 1959 Vice-President Richard Nixon dedicates the new Monorail at Disneyland. On the same day, the Matterhorn and the Submarine Voyage (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) also opened at Disneyland. (65th anniversary)
  • June 15: “The Lion King” is released in 1994. (25th anniversary)
  • June 18: The animated film “Tarzan” is released in 1999. (25th anniversary).
  • June 21: “Toy Story 4” premieres in 2019. (5th anniversary)
  • June 24: Roy O. Disney is born in Chicago, Illinois in 1893. (131st anniversary)
