World Celebration construction update; is that the new Walt statue?

Construction in the new World Celebration area of EPCOT continues, but still looks like it will be a long way from being ready to open this December as Disney has previously announced.

On item of interest that can be seen is a wooden box that might contain the newest statue coming to Disney World – Walt the Dreamer. The new statue will be sitting on stairs at the Dreamers Point area of the park. “The statue of Walt Disney shows him at the time of his life when he was dreaming up EPCOT and the overall Florida Project. He’s older, positioned as one of us, sitting at Dreamers Point off axis, looking out at the park he never saw in person but created in spirit,” Disney has previously said.

Earlier this year, Disney announced that the construction walls around World Celebration will be down and the new hub in the center of EPCOT will open with

  • Dreamer’s Point, where guests can sit next to a statue of Walt the Dreamer.
  • CommuniCore Hall, which is described as an exhibit and gallery space (and maybe a place to bring back the cooking and mixology demonstrations that used to be central to the Food & Wine Festival). This will likely also include space for character meet-and-greets.
  • CommuniCore Plaza, an outdoor concert and event space that will also be central to Epcot’s festivals.
  • World Celebration Gardens, the lush landscaped space built around a central planter sitting on top of the five-ring Epcot logo.
