Find the Hidden Oswald at Walt Disney World

Before Mickey Mouse, there was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, an animated character who held a special place in the heart of Walt Disney. Oswald was Walt’s first major animated creation and is often regarded as one of the earliest characters in animation history to possess a distinct personality.

Oswald made his debut in 1927 in the short film “Trolley Troubles,” and over the next year, Walt and his team created 26 Oswald short films. However, in 1928, Walt Disney lost creative control over his beloved character due to contractual disputes with producer Charles Mintz.

Fast forward to 2006 when Robert A. Iger, the CEO of The Walt Disney Company, engineered a groundbreaking deal with NBCUniversal. This extraordinary agreement allowed sportscaster Al Michaels to join NBC in exchange for the return of Oswald to Disney, marking a historic homecoming for the iconic character. Since then, Oswald has made appearances in various forms of media, from video games to merchandise, and even an animated short.
