You can meet Figment at EPCOT starting Sept. 10
Everyone’s favorite Figment of the imagination will meet guests at EPCOT starting Sept. 10 at the Imagination pavilion.
The new meet-and-greet was announced last year at the D23 Expo and is finally set to open. The good news? Figment doesn’t look too creepy!
Epcot’s unofficial mascot has been a part of the park since it opened in 1982 as part of the original attraction Journey Into Imagination. (RIP Dreamfinder)
Figment is an EPCOT original, but he was originally meant to be part of Disneyland. In the 1970s, a proposed attraction for the California park would have featured “a panoramic showcase of curiosities and marvels of our world, hosted by two brand new characters: Professor Marvel and his impish sidekick — a yet-to-be-named dragon,” according to the Disney Parks Blog. (No relation to the Marvel we know today, which is probably a good thing. Figment would be a prime candidate to be snatched by the Collector.)
Our favorite purple dragon also was originally conceived as a different color — green. He does have the body of a lizard, but we prefer the more fanciful colors.
Next time you’re at Epcot, stop by and say hi!
