Disney Imagineering shows off new technology at SXSW
A new robot and special technology were on display as Disney took the stage for the first time ever at South by Southwst a conference and series of festivals celebrating the convergence of tech, film, music, education, and culture in Austin, Texas.
Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro led the presentation on how Disney Parks uses storytelling and technology to “create happiness for our guests.” He talked about how they also use immersive environments, sensory-provoking food and music, visual effects, and interactions with Disney characters.
Then Disney Imagineers came out to show off some of the work they are doing. This includes a new prototype robot showcased publicly for the first time. This robot pushes the boundaries of what characters can do in Disney experiences and marks the next step forward for Imagineer’s robotic advancements. It can make dynamic maneuvers, including falling down and getting back up, as well as a somersault.
Imagineers also shared a behind-the-scenes look at another blue-sky concept that lets fans have a real-time conversation with pixie-sized Tinker Bell. This is the latest innovation that brings Disney characters, both big and small, to life in new ways.

The Hulk , with his unique exoskeleton, greeted the SXSW audience during the presentation. The Hulk debuted for the first time at D23 EXPO 2022 before heading over to Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park.
