Rough timetable of when new attractions, shows are coming to Disney World

The announcements made this past weekend at D23 Expo 2022 about what’s coming to Walt Disney World were a bit lackluster (here’s the full story of what we had to say), but there are still new things coming and things to be excited about.

In Disney fashion, most of the target dates are wide open. Let’s take a look at what’s coming and when.

“Happily Ever After” at Magic Kingdom Park

The familiar song will be returning in an updated nighttime spectacular sometime in 2023. Now, let’s stress this, the show as you know it is not coming back as is, we checked with Disney on this. The fireworks show will be updated. How much and to what extent has not yet been announced. We are guessing that Disney’s 100th anniversary will be represented in the show in some form.

The Hatbox Ghost at Magic Kingdom Park

The popular character from the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland will make an appearance inside the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom. So, if there are 999 ghosts already, who is he tagging in for? He will be arriving in 2023.

TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom Park

We’ve been waiting and waiting for the new attraction next to Space Mountain to cycle up and now we know it will open sometime in spring 2023. Guests will climb aboard your very own Lightcycle and race through a dark, computerized world alongside your family and friends. As you swoop and swerve throughout the course, your team will compete to be the first to race through eight Energy Gates and claim victory.

As part of the EPCOT transformation happening now at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., the park’s World Celebration neighborhood will offer a beautiful hub divided into several different gardens, with a central planter based on the five-ring EPCOT logo. (Disney)

World Celebration at EPCOT

In late 2023 we can expect all of those construction walls to be removed and the World Celebration area to be complete, ending a multi-year transformation.

Included in this will be the “Walt the Dreamer” statue. With lush, green space for you to relax, plus the opening of Communicore Hall and Communicore Plaza, this central location in the park will be the new home for festivals and the perfect space to gather with family and friends. It will also be home to Dreamers Point, an inspiring new area where you can view the new Walt Disney statue called “Walt the Dreamer.”

Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana at EPCOT

In World Nature – the EPCOT neighborhood dedicated to understanding and preserving the beauty, awe, and balance of the natural world – Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, will also open in late 2023. The new exploration trail will allow guests to learn about the story of water on our planet. As you may have seen through Moana’s bond with the ocean, water has a mind of its own, and you’ll get to interact with it throughout this attraction.

Figment meet up at EPCOT

Yes, it’s true. He’s coming back. And you can meet him. Two tiny wings, eyes big and yellow. Horn of a steer, but a lovable fellow. From head to tail, he’s royal purple pigment. And there, viola! You’ve got a Figment! By then end of 2023 you will be able to meet him, but he is coming to life in a whole new way, Disney says.

New Nighttime Spectacular at EPCOT

Harmonious will be swapped out with a brand-new nighttime spectacular on the World Showcase Lagoon at EPCOT in late 2023 as part of the Disney100 Celebration.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure – Magic Kingdom Park
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will take you along with Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen and their friends as they host a party at Tiana’s Place for the people of New Orleans. This new attraction is a re-imagining fo Splash Mountain and will open in late 2024.
