Disney Imagineers testing show lighting inside TRON
Walt Disney Imagineering has started show lighting testing of the canpoy at TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom, according to the waltdisneyimagineering Instagram page.
The new coaster being built in Tomorrowland next to Space Mountain is based on Shanghai Disneyland’s TRON Lightcycle Power Run. Guests will board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles that will take them inside and outside the attraction’s building, reaching speeds of nearly 60 miles. The ride lasts about two minutes. No opening date for Magic Kingdom has been announced.
The outside portion of the ride takes place under a huge canopy. “This curved-wave structure serves as the Upload Conduit to the Grid, where guests, known as Users, will race beneath on Lightcycles as they begin their competition,” according to post.
More than 1,200 light fixtures are placed across the surface and the Show Lighting team is now testing the system and programming the light.
“The canopy and exterior plaza will be brought to life in the coming months as the project team continues uploading and integrating additional show elements,” according to the post.
No opening date has been set, but there is speculation it might take place by the end of 2022.
