Disney Imagineer reveals more details of World Celebration, illuminated paving designs

The nighttime experience in the reimagined World Celebration area of EPCOT will be lit up by 12,000 individually controllable lighting fixtures, according to Zach Ridley, Creative Portfolio Executive at Disney Imagineering.

Disney yesterday an updated look at EPCOT’s transformation, specifically the new World Celebration area. Ridley has released additional information on what the after dark experience in the area will be.

The central planter in the heart of World Celebration sits atop the EPCOT logo. The rings of the logo will come to life with light and color. “We know our guests loved the fiber optics embedded in the pavement at EPCOT, and we’re excited to share that we’re bringing back new illuminated paving designs in World Celebration,” he wrote.

As part of the EPCOT transformation, the gardens of World Celebration will take on a whole new life at night, where lighting immerses guests in an evening experience that will evolve through the seasons. (Disney)

In addition, “We’re creating new spaces for ‘hero’ features, large-scale décor, topiaries, lighting and artistic elements that mark the seasons. Here, we see an artist’s vision for the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, where light becomes a unifying element of global holiday celebrations – and our points of light across Spaceship Earth provide a fully in-the-round experience throughout all of World Celebration,” he wrote.
