Amazon Prime’s ‘Upload’ has the best Disney Cruise Line joke out there
For the Disney fans who enjoy the sci-fi comedy “Upload” on Amazon Prime you probably caught the great Disney Cruise Line joke near the end of the second season.
The show takes place in 2033 when people who are near death can be “uploaded” into virtual reality hotels run by six tech firms. The premise of the show, according to Amazon Prime, takes place as cash-strapped Nora lives in Brooklyn and works customer service for the luxurious “Lakeview” digital afterlife. When L.A. party-boy/coder Nathan’s self-driving car crashes, his high-maintenance girlfriend uploads him permanently into Nora’s VR world.
Throughout the series, a number of jokes are made at the expense of other companies and pop culture icons. In Episode 16, the penultimate show in the second season, the virtual characters and their human “angels” go on a tour of New York City on a mission and come upon a billboard touting the latest Disney Cruise ship – Disney’s Eternity.
On this virtual cruise ship, you experience “Endless Disney, Endlessly. The crowds, the food … Forever!”
“Upload,” created by Greg Daniels. who also created “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation,” does a superb job in creating the cruise ship name considering these are the actual names of the Disney Cruise Line fleet:
- Disney Magic
- Disney Dream
- Disney Wonder
- Disney Fantasy
- Disney Wish
