Disney Cruise Line delays maiden voyage of Disney Wish by 6 weeks
Disney Cruise Line today announced to guests that it will be delaying the inaugural voyages of the new Disney Wish by six weeks after The Meyer Werft shipyard notified the company itr needs more time to finish construction.
The delay is due in part to the omicron varient that swept through Germany during a “critical point in the production process.” This isn’t the first delay for Disney’s latest ship. The Disney Wish was supposed was to make its debut in January of this year before the worldwide pandemic started.
This means the maiden voyage is moving back from June 9 to July 14, 2022.
Disney Cruise Line is now contacting those affected guest to help adjust plans. One option being offered is a 50% discount on future cruises departing by Dec. 31, 2023.
In addition, future bookings are on hold until Feb. 8, 2022.
“We know how much our guests are looking forward to sailing on the Disney Wish, and we understand the disappointment and inconvenience this will cause. We treasure the relationship we have with those who sail and make memories with us, and we will work closely with those affected to welcome them aboard in the future,” said Thomas Mazloum, president of Disney Cruise Line. “Despite this unavoidable adjustment to our plans, our team at Disney Cruise Line has never been more optimistic about the future and cannot wait to welcome families aboard the magnificent Disney Wish.”
The Disney Wish is the first of three new ships ordered by the Disney Cruise Line. The others are scheduled for completion in 2024 and 2025.
