Video: Las Posadas Celebration at EPCOT during festival of the holidays

The EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays not only tries to entertain, but educate those about how the holidays are celebrated in various countries and cultures.

The storytellers around the World Showcase have been retelling tales of the various countries. In Mexico, we enjoy the music and festivities of Las Posadas with the music of Mariachi Cobre.

Las Posadas is a religious festival chiefly celebrated in Mexico and portions of Latin America that commemorates the journey that Joseph and Mary made from Nazareth to Bethlehem. It is typically celebrated each year between Dec. 16 and Dec. 24.

Here, Mariachi Cobre, with the help of a pair of dancers go through some of the traditions, including the two dancers portraying Mary and Joseph and how they are turned away from a series of houses as they ask for lodging. Finally the two travelers are allowed to enter. The evening ends with a piñata.

The festival ends on Dec. 30. This performance can be seen in the Mexico pavilion at
