EPCOT’s latest transformation should be complete by 2023
All of us have been looking forward to having those green construction walls around EPCOT disappear and now we know they might be gone by 2023.
Imagineers Tom Fitzgerald and John Dennis, during a Destination D23 panel, hinted that the current overhaul project would be complete by 2023.
This came during the announcement that a new musical score from Pinar Toprak will debut in 2023.
The work needed to be complete at EPCOT, at least for this phase of the overhaul, includes:
Dreamers Point: As the transformation of Epcot continues, the World Celebration neighborhood will feature Dreamers Point, a breathtaking new view of World Showcase featuring a new statue honoring the legacy of the original dreamer, Walt Disney.
Moana: The World Nature neighborhood will soon be home to Moana: A Journey of Water, a walk-through attraction that allows guests to interact with “living” water.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind: The world’s longest indoor roller coaster is coming to Epcot’s World Discovery neighborhood in summer 2022.
New Quick Service Restaurant: A new quick-service restaurant, Connections Café and Eatery, will debut in the World Celebration neighborhood.
The areas that are still in question include:
Spaceship Earth refurb: Disney has said that has been placed on hold for a while.
The future of the Play! Pavilion: Originally scheduled to open in time for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World, this pavilion would be a digital city bursting with games, activities, and experiences that connect them with friends, family, and beloved Disney characters like never before.
Future of World Celebration Festival Area: This area was originally supposed to contain a new three-level pavilion designed to be home base for EPCOT’s signature festivals, but has been changed to an area.
