Disney confirms when Epcot’s Guardians of the Galaxy ride will open (sort of)
Disney can be pretty slippery about opening dates, so anytime the company announces an official timeline, it’s notable. Even if that opening date is actually an opening year.
Today, Disney announced that Epcot’s next major attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, will debut in 2022. This was not unexpected, as the attraction has been under construction for four years. It was originally expected to open this year, in time for Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration.
Still, it’s great to know we’re closing in on the debut of this hotly anticipated attraction. Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley describes the ride as a new type of roller coaster — a “storycoaster that rotates 360 degrees so you’re always focused on all the action as you help the Guardians save the galaxy.”
Described as a “family-friendly adventure,” the ride will be one of the longest indoor coasters in the world and will have the first reverse launch on a coaster in Disney history.
As part of the announcement, Riddley shared a glimpse inside the construction zone. When completed, the Galaxarium pictured below will feature a planetarium-type presentation where the Xandarians show us their world, their people and their advanced technologies.
