Photos: Tron construction moves forward for canopy preparation

High above the ground construction crews are working to prepare the outside structure of the new Tron ride, coming to the Magic Kingdom, for the signature canopy.

Crews are preparing the structure and the exterior as well for the diversion of the Walt Disney World Railroad tracks and the new entrance area.

Here’s a look at the exterior concept art to give you an idea of what the area will look like.

The new coaster, being built in Tomorrowland next to Space Mountain, is based on Shanghai Disneyland’s TRON Lightcycle Power Run.  Guests will board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles that will take them inside and outside the attraction’s building, reaching speeds of nearly 60 miles. The ride lasts about two minutes.

Some of the workers can be seen high on the structure preparing it for the canopy.

Now, if you are looking to see the updates yourself as you visit Magic Kingdom, make sure to take a ride on the PeopleMover to get a front row glance.

No date has been announced on when Tron might open. Rumors have it opening in late 2022 or even perhaps in 2023. Timetable updates might be announced in November during the Destination D23 taking place the Contemporary Resort. This event normally provides updates on attractions and entertainment coming to theme parks.
