Disney World alters face mask policy, no longer required on outdoor rides
Walt Disney World is again modifying its face mask policy and will now make it optional for those who want to wear a face mask when riding on outdoor rides, or in outdoo lines, or are attending outdoor theaters.
The change goes into effect tomorrow, Aug. 19.
Disney has been constantly updating its policy.
When Disney World first reopened last year masks were required everywhere on property and needed to be worn unless you were eating or drinking while standing aside. It then loosened up the policy allowing face masks to be removed for outdoor photos.
Then on May 15, guests were no longer required to wear face coverings in “outdoor common areas.” On June 15, face masks became optional for fully vaccinated guests with the exception of Disney transportation.
Then the delta variant surge took place and on July 30 guests were again required to wear masks at all indoor locations and on all attractions.
Now, Disney is loosening it up, according to a statement from the company:
“Since May, face coverings have been optional for Guests in outdoor common areas, and beginning Thursday, August 19, face coverings will also be optional for Guests in outdoor attractions, outdoor queues and outdoor theaters at Walt Disney World Resort.
“As a reminder, face coverings remain required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) while indoors and in Disney buses, monorail and Disney Skyliner, regardless of vaccination status.”
