7 big things happening at Walt Disney World in September 2021
The month before the big 18 month-long 50th-anniversary celebration kicks off at Walt Disney World, we will see the return of another resort, the first dessert party coming back, more restaurants reopening, annual passes returning, and we will be saying so long to two nighttime spectaculars.
In addition, during the month, expect to see the final preparations taking place around all four theme parks in preparation for everything coming starting Oct. 1 for the 50th anniversary – see below for that last. Changes could be taking place daily at the parks. Part of this might be the opening of
But first, let’s see what’s coming in September:
1. Annual Passes Return
Walt Disney World will start selling annual passes once again starting on Sept. 8, 2021, and will be introducing four new offerings.
Three of the four offerings are available exclusively to Florida residents, and one is geared toward Disney Vacation Club Members. These all have some blockout dates. Then there is the complete pass that does not contain blockout dates.
Prices range from $399 plus tax to $1,299 plus tax.
2. Diamond Horseshoe Returns
The Diamond Horsehoe, one of the last remaining dining locations at Magic Kingdom still to reopen since March 2020, will open its doors on Sept. 12, 2021.
Hours are not yet listed for this Old Western Musical Hall, which serves an all-you-care-to-enjoy meal featuring a salad, followed by a platter of flavorful entrees to choose from—BBQ pulled pork, citrus-marinated chicken, country smoked sausage or carved beef brisket with all the fixin’s.
Dessert options include s’more cake, smoked chocolate cake, graham cracker-butter cream and toasted marshmallow.
3. Space 220
The long-awaited opening of the Space 220 restaurant in EPCOT will take place in mid-September.
Adjacent to Mission: SPACE, the new dining experience will make it seem like you are 220 miles above the Earth in the Centauri Space Station. Inside the dining area, you’ll experience a panoramic view of Earth below, and a variety of work and leisure activities taking place beyond the windows of the Space Station-themed restaurant.
The restaurant, which will seat about 350 people, features a 250-foot long digital screen wrapping around the wall showing off daytimes and nighttime views of space.
4. Disney’s All-Star Music Resort Reopening?
Another value resort at Disney World – The All-Star Music Resort – is still on the schedule to reopen on Sept. 16, but there has been some speculation that Disney might delay the reopening. There have been some instances where people with current reservations have been told they are being moved to other resorts. However, Disney is still taking reservations for the reopening. The resurgence of the COVID-19 delta variant has seen some cancellations take place. Disney might not need to increase its inventory. Officially, the resort is still scheduled to reopen.
5. Dessert Party on the Water
Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise returns to the waterways just in time to catch the end of “Happily Ever After” fireworks at Magic Kingdom.
The cruise returns starting Sept. 18, 2021. The cruise contains a selection of bite-size signature treats, from KABOOM! Cupcakes and Rocket Burst Popcorn Push Ups to Red Velvet Wow! Pie and Grand Finale Key Lime Tarts. You can even Build Your Own Mousse. There are a number of specialty drinks with and without alcohol and for the kids or big kids, there’s also an ultraviolet scavenger hunt.
From the middle of the lagoon you then get to watch the fireworks, with the music and you put on special “Mickey Vision” glasses to help transform your viewing experience
The cost for the event is $99 for adults and $69 for children ages 3 to 9 (tax and gratuity included) and even includes a special takeaway surprise. Annual Passholders receive a 10% discount.
6. Creations Shop and Club Cool to open
A new flagship merchandise location in EPCOT called Creations Shop is scheduled to reopen this summer, according to Disney and summer ends on Sept. 22, so we can take a good guess that it will reopen by that day. This store will be the replacement for MouseGear, the longtime main shopping location in the park. The new theme falls in line with the reimagining of EPCOT. Future World is being turned into three areas, World Discovery, World Celebration and World Nature.
In addition, Club Cool, the place where people can taste test popular Coca-Cola flavors from different countries including the beloved Beverly, is also scheduled to reopen at the same time.
7. So Long Nightime Shows
The last performances of two nighttime shows will take place this month making way for new nighttime spectaculars debuting at Walt Disney World on Oct. 1.
Happily Ever After: This 18-minute show featuring fireworks, lasers and special effects, projections on the Cinderella Castle, plus a soaring score featuring contemporary versions of beloved Disney songs will have its final performance on Sept. 29. The new show “Disney Enchantment” opens on Oct. 1.
EPCOT Forever: This temporary show, which was created as a placeholder between Illuminations and the upcoming Harmonious show. EPCOT Forever celebrates the past, present and future of EPCOT through fireworks and special-effects spectacular and will have its final performance on Sept. 28. The new show, Harmonious, kicks off Oct. 1
