‘Partners’ statue getting a refresh before the 50th anniversary

The “Partners” statue featuring Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse in front of Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom is getting a little refresh before the 50th anniversary celebration kicking off on Oct. 1.

The statue has been taken down to its bare metal for its cleaning.

According to a sign near the statue: “The process of removing oxidation buildup from patinated bronze is intensive — involving multiple phases to strip the sculpture to its bare metal before cleaning, reapplying a patina and coating he entire figure in protective polymer and wax.”

No specific date as to what it will be complete has been announced.
