Disney posts alligator warning signs and builds a fence where 2-year-old boy died this week
Disney put up new signs warning about alligators and snakes, and built a temporary rope fence on the beach at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in Disney World where a 2-year-old was killed by an alligator earlier this week.
The new signs say “Danger. Alligators and Snakes In Area. Stay Away From The Water. Do Not Feed The Wildlife.” Previous signs simply stated “No Swimming.”
“We are installing signage and temporary barriers at our resort beach locations and are working on permanent, long-term solutions at our beaches,” according to a statement released by Disney.
Disney said it will continue to evaluate processes and procedures for the entire property and reinforce training “with our Cast for reporting sightings and interactions with wildlife and are expanding our communication to Guests on this topic.”
The Seven Seas Lagoon, which borders the Grand Floridian,is where Lane Graves of Nebraska was taken by the alligator. The lagoon was originally built for swimming surfing, but an artificial wave machine that was supposed to be used caused beach erosion and surfing was discontinued.
Eventually swimming was prohibited due to boat traffic and bacteria in the water.
