14 big things to watch at Disneyland in July 2021

Fireworks, a hotel, two major attractions and a lot of new dining locations will be returning to the Disneyland Resort this July as the two theme parks and hotels move back to some “normalcy.”

(Note: We just added a 15th item that was announced today making it 15.)

Here’s what to look forward to in July.

1. Disneyland Hotel reopens

The Disneyland Hotel, Disneyland’s original hotel reopens on July 2, 2021, with limited capacity. The hotel is the last of the three Disneyland Resort hotels to reopen. During the closure, the upholstery and fabrics throughout the guest rooms, lobbies and meeting rooms were refreshed and updated. The guest rooms now feature a fun new fireworks pattern in the carpet and upgraded platform beds to help maximize storage. The corridor flooring features new patterns inspired by the art of Mary Blair with graphic elements recalling the park lands each of the towers are named for.

2. Matterhorn Bobsleds reopen

The Matterhorn Bobsleds reopen July 2 after some refurbishment work. You will once again be able to climb into a 6-person bobsled and brace yourself against howling winds as you ascend 80 feet up into an icy cave. Take in the sweeping views at the summit and prepare for a thrilling, high-speed ride.

3. Fireworks return

Celebrate Independence Day at Disneyland with the return of “Mickey Mix Magic” fireworks. The fireworks will be presented nightly throughout the summer. State-of-the-art projections, show lighting and lasers will transform Main Street, U.S.A., Sleeping Beauty Castle and the façade of “it’s a small world” into a dazzling, family fun dance party that goes sky high with fireworks to celebrate the leader of the club, Mickey Mouse.

4. Refreshed Jungle Cruise opens

On July 16, the Jungle Cruise reopens with its all new storyline and with new characters, updated experiences, and some new jokes from the witty skippers. Disney has provided a bigger backstory to the Jungle Cruise attraction featuring Alberta Falls, the granddaughter of world-renowned Dr. Albert Falls.

And, while you might not see Trader Sam, you will see Trader Sam’s newest venture. Trader Sam has found a way to convert the new Lost & Found location into something more profitable for the Jungle Navigation Company Ltd. The Jungle Cruise appears to be going the route of all the best rides – ending with a gift shop.
